Library Systems

After spending the day with the wonderful folks over at the Dupage Library System, I realize at how much these systems do in the State of Illinois.  The fact that the state has not been providing them with their much needed funding is increasingly worrisome.  What will we do if they go belly-up?

On the bright side, the viral campaign that they launched to send emails to the Governor and Comptroller is impressive to say the least.  They were hoping to get 3,000 emails, but they got so many more.  The 20,000 emails prompted Illinois to release about 1/3 of the funding.  I’m sure another campaign will follow, but this demonstrates the value of social media marketing strategy to libraries.

My newest toy

I cannot resist the urge to detail the adventures of me and my new phone.  I recently purchased a Motorola Droid, and I cannot stop raving about it.  This phone is great.  How does it related to the purpose of this site and information activism, you may ask, well as I hold the phone in my hands I realize that one day (not too far off) the entire content of my library can fit into this tiny (beautiful, sexy, and sleek) device.

My Alma Mater, Elmhurst College, wins ACRL Excellence in Academic Libraries Award

My alma mater, Elmhurst College‘s A.C. Buehler Library wins the ACRL Excellence in Academic Libraries Award.  As a former student, I cannot agree with the assessment more.  The librarians at this small liberal arts college work tirelessly to ensure student success, and student enjoyment.  As the ACRL indicates, “Buehler Library demonstrated an excellent program for outreach to classroom faculty and articulated the link between library planning and activities to the institution’s strategic plan,” Todaro noted. “The selection committee admired the integration of gaming into student engagement activities, along with the library’s focus on student development programs and services.”

My hats off to you Buehler Library
