OK, so a LOT has happened during my first week as director of the Highwood Public Library. I am so incredibly fortunate to work with a wonderful, dedicated, and truly patron-centered staff. The Board has been superb ensuring a smooth transition. I also know that I have the BEST volunteer team any library has every seen. I’ve had a few bumps along the road this week (mostly in getting the library their money and locating records), but it has been a great first week.
And to just make my day today, I received the warmest welcome from a bunch of other directors in the system formerly known as NSLS (AKA RAILS North?).
I just cannot explain how truly lucky I am. I work in the noblest profession in the world. My colleagues always seem to bring a smile to my face. I get to lead a library into an exciting new era, and I get to do it with great people by my side every step of the way. What more could any ask of his or her profession?
Glad to hear you’ve had a great first week. I look forward to hearing more about what you get done as the director.
