Google Goggles

I am lucky enough to have a Motorola Droid with Google Android.  Yesterday my phone did an update.  It came with two awesome features.  The first is standard speech recognition.  It’s cool, but nothing amazing.

The second was Google Goggles.  This is visual search technology.  It is amazing.  I ran around and took pictures of all kinds of stuff and it figured out what it was and searched Google.  It is amazing technology.  It reads text, barcodes but also art and buildings.

There are huge implications for library and information science.  Visual search will definitely change the way people search for information.  Just WOW!!!
