Library Poem

A Shakespearean sonnet I wrote about libraries:

The only American institution
where wise men are found
but all have an invitation
even those preached from the mound

It ensures our democracy
by letting all information free
without fail or hypocrisy
for even someone like me

For even in deafening silence
freedom of speech upheld
without death or violence
thirst of knowledge quelled

As long as the library remains steadfast
We ensure democracy will surely last
