Chicago Deskset — ILA Pub Crawl

The Chicago Deskset will be hosting one of the four sites for ILA’s “The Hidden Secrets of Streeterville”.

Are you free Wednesday evening?  Come hang out with other librarians and the Chicago Deskset at Elephant & Castle at 160 E Huron Avenue from 8PM to 11PM.  When you see the red British phone booth you know that you have arrived.  Come out and talk about civic librarianship over a pint, or lend your taste buds to the catalogers.  We intend on cataloging each of the 16 draft imports.  Our professional commitment is so great that it drips off our chins.

Please RSVP on the Facebook event page.

Chicago Deskset — 826 Chicago Fundraiser

Come hang out at the next Chicago Deskset event to raise funds for 826 Chicago!

Date: July 10, 2010

Location: Goose Island Brewpub, 800 North Clybourn Avenue, Chicago, IL

We are supporting 826 Chicago. 826CHI is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write.

Please bring $5 (or more!) to donate to the charity. You can make personal checks out to “826CHI” or bring cash! We have a private room (Siebel Hall) with our own cash bar and food can be ordered from the menu!

Also if you have emailed us about volunteering for a committee we will try to get the groups together at some point during the event. And as always, we will have some sort of raffle in exchange for your donations to 826 Chicago.

So come have fun, drink local beer and raise funds for a great local charity! We hope to see you there!

To RSVP please use the Facebook page

Chicago Deskset — Open Call for Participation

The Chicago Deskset invites you to participate in the next phase of our mission to unite
Chicago librarians through civic librarianship and fundraising.

We have asked many of you about the skills that you have and what areas you would like
to participate in.

We will be nominating group members and leaders in the following areas:

  • Charity Liaison Group
  • Events and Spaces Group
  • Professional Development Activities
  • Marketing Group

In order to make the most progress in each group we will collect volunteers until June
18th.

To participate, please send an email to chicagodeskset@gmail.com
Include one of the group titles in your subject line.

After the 18th, we will help to organize a meeting between volunteers. Some meetings
will be held virtually and it is not necessary to attend every meeting. We anticipate that
due to group size, no volunteer will be expected to spend more than a couple of hours per
month on group tasks.

This is your chance to make Chicago Deskset work for you and your community, so be
sure to let us know how you would like to help!

As always, feel free to post comments or questions via:
